Encore v1.0

Why Encore exists

It started with an iMac standing around after a new MacBook arrived.

Hi, I'm Niklas. When I switched to a MacBook, my Retina 5K iMac ended up unused on the side. The computer inside had become slow, but the screen was still better than any monitor I'd consider buying.

I remembered that iMacs used to work as monitors, and found out that Apple's Target Display Mode never came to the Retina iMacs and doesn't work with today's MacBooks. What I did find were videos of people cutting the glass off their iMacs to fit driver boards from AliExpress. I didn't want to risk breaking mine.

So we built Encore: software for both Macs and one cable, and the iMac becomes a real display. Sharp text, smooth video, sound, and it sleeps and wakes with your Mac. Unplug it, and it's an iMac again.

Encore is made in Sweden. No account, no tracking, and your screen never leaves the cable between your two Macs.
